Innovation, Expertise + High-Quality Work
This renovation and expansion project changed the use of over two-thirds of the 12,300-SF post-partum care floor into a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), converting 16 patient rooms into 15 NICU rooms, relocating the staff lounge, adding a family lounge, upgrading multiple nurse’s stations, adding administrative work areas, and refreshing the public corridor.
Construction was completed on the 12th floor of the 24/7 fully occupied hospital tower. We met the challenges of working adjacent to NICU patients and during the height of the pandemic with careful planning and deep concern for patient and staff safety. SJMC’s nursing staff became part of our team, helping plan and inform safety measures and meticulous down-to-the-minute coordination to ensure the health and safety of neonates who are far more sensitive to vibrations and noise than a fully developed infant.
Throughout the project, we built and maintained a trusting relationship with SJMC facilities and clinical staff. Understanding SJMC’s critical milestones shaped how we adapted and responded to changes or delays and paved the way to maximizing our combined team’s time and delivery for this highest-quality expansion project.
Recognized for its excellence in safety, this project won the 2021 AGC Build Washington Construction Excellence TI under $5M Award. Read more about the award and other related news in our blog: SJMC NICU Wins AGC Award and A Reason to Celebrate!
