Exceeding owner's LEED goals at no additional cost

The Rainier Science and Technology Building at Pierce College combined highly technical laboratory equipment with sophisticated mechanical and electrical systems. The facility was designed to achieve LEED^® Silver incorporating photovoltaic panels, automatic solar-sensing window shades, automatic ventilation, automated building controls, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.
Through our team’s efforts in exceeding goals for construction waste diversion and use of recycled building materials we surpassed the LEED Silver objective, achieving LEED Gold certification at no additional cost to the owner.

The combination of sophisticated laboratory and IT requirements with complicated high-energy efficiency lighting and HVAC systems was particularly challenging. Our project goal was to achieve LEED™ Silver. Aldrich worked with our design team and sustainability consultant to achieve LEED™ Gold at no additional cost to the college.
